A petite, slim figure stood in the armor gallery. Ashton Ember Marie Larks, known to most as Ash or Ashton, sighed, a bored look on her pretty face. She rolled her piercing blue-green eyes. Today, there was simply nothing to do!
Walking along the Armour Gallery, Ash continued her boredom. She knew she wasn't helping it, but what could she do? There weren't any good pranks to play, and Natalie was off doing who knew what. And Sean was out in Ireland, playing quidditch. The lucky bastard. Unlike most younger sisters, Ash actually missed her older brother.
Ash accidentally knocked into one of the suits of armour while not paying attention to where she was going. Groaning, she sighed yet again. Picking up the suit, she glared at the small, angry noises it was making. Stupid armour...[/sup]

"Aren't we awfully quiet today," a sarcastic voice spoke from the shadows. Lafayette emerged from a dark corner of the room. He had been watching her for a few minutes. He found that people were the most vulnerable when they thought they were alone. Now he stepped out of his his hiding place so that he could be seen properly.
"Why aren't you surrounded by your gang of giggling girlfriends? You think you're too good to talk to anyone?" he asked as he took a few steps toward her. There was a hungry look in his eyes; it was as if he was expecting her to get angry.

"Aren't we awfully quiet today."
"Oh, you know me. I never say a word," Ash replied back in the same sarcastic tone. Her piercing blue-green eyes showed no sign of fury, merely annoyance. Always the same, always the same - for some unknown reason, the 7th year Slytherin in front of her seemed to enjoy torturing Ashton Larks. She tried her best to ignore it, but that didn't always work. Hey, nothing was foolproof.
"Why aren't you surrounded by your gang of giggling girlfriends? You think you're too good to talk to anyone?"
She looked at him boredly, shrugging slightly. "I'd answer that, but I wouldn't want to sound like a snob now, would I?" she partially snapped back, raising an eyebrow. Ash sighed inwardly, wondering what sort of retort Lafayette would have.

"You sound like a snob either way, Princess," Lafayette told her, determined to make her angry. It was his favorite pastime; he enjoyed seeing Ashton angry. Why? No one knows.
"You say you never say a word, eh? So if I were to call you an attention-seeking whore, would you keep quiet?" he asked her smirking.

"You sound like a snob either way, Princess."
"Thank you," she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes again. She was trying not to get angry, but he always seemed to know just how to...well, push her buttons. Everything he had to say infuriated her! Yet...no, not possible. It just WASN'T.
"You say you never say a word, eh? So if I were to call you an attention-seeking whore, would you keep quiet?"
That just about set her off. Trying to keep her breathing at a normal pace, Ashton's slim, graceful hands found their way towards her pocket, which was carrying her wand, with effortless ease. But she immediatley pulled them away in a blur of movement, as if she hadn't even thought about hexing him in the first place. "I dinnae. Depends on wha' you would say if I called you an arrogan', fucking bastard," Ash replied in the calmest voice she could muster. Even she could hear the angry break in her normally cool, lilting voice, try as hard as she could to ignore it. He just...knew exactly how to get under her skin! And she despised him for it!
Ash forced herself to keep the look on her pretty face serene and peaceful, though it wasn't working. Her eyes, which changed color when she was angry (damn those Metamorphagus abilities! Always there when you didn't want them!) were already a dark, glinting red. She waited for Lafayette to counter back with one of his normal insults.

He could tell that she was getting angry, and he smirked. "I'd say you have a bit to learn about me, Princess. I may be alot of things, but arrogant isn't one of them."
His voice sounded very serious, but there was a hint of amusement in his blue-green eyes as they locked with hers. "You know, your eyes are the window to your soul," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "And yours, Princess, always show when you're mad. By the way, red is so not your color," he finished, his smirk back in place.

"I'd say you have a bit to learn about me, Princess. I may be a lot of things, but arrogant isn't one of them."
Ash opened her mouth to make a clever retort, but instantly shut it. But it wasn't for long - today, it seemed as if frustration had finally beaten her normally cool personality, and it wasn't going to get away with merely winning the battle. It had to win the war too, and destroy its opponent on the way.
"You have a lot to learn about me as well, or maybe you wouldn't be calling me Princess," she retorted hotly, wanting to kick the nearest piece of armor, but resisting the fighting urge.
Even she knew that sounded retarded. Ashton Ember Marie Larks did act like a snobby Princess, as much as she hated to admit it to herself. She went around, pretending to be all high and mighty and above anyone else. Ashton always got her way, and threw an all-out fit if something she didn't like happened.
"You know, your eyes are the window to your soul. And yours, Princess, always show when you're mad. By the way, red is so not your color."
Taking a deep breath, Ashton glared back at him, not letting his blue-green eyes leave her vision. Concentrating, she changed her eyes to a beautiful sky blue, one that she hoped he couldn't find a reason to insult. Wait, that was odd...didn't she like it when he insulted her? It enforced the two teenagers' hateful relationship. God, this day was turning out to be so weird. Maybe she was high on castle dust, or something.
"Any better?" she whispered dangerously, just hoping that the roots of her sandy-blonde ponytail (or the tips of her face-framing layers, for that matter) wouldn't redden for the upteenth time that year. Metamorphaging could be a lovely ability when needed, but it tended to show your emotions as well. So a lot of the time, Ashton felt as if she was wearing her heart on her sleeve, which she hated. No, despised. She waited for Lafayette's answer, while trying desperately to shake some sense and reason into herself at the same time.

"You have a lot to learn about me as well, or maybe you wouldn't be calling me Princess,"
Lafayette chuckled. "Why would I not call you Princess? You think yourself better than everyone, just as I think myself better than everyone."
He knew that she was getting angry, and now it was time to move in for the kill. He watched her hungrily as she forced her red eyes to turn a mesmerizing shade of blue.
"Any better?"
Lafayette snorted. "The eyes are better, but the face still needs work," he said with a smirk.

"Why would I not call you Princess? You think yourself better than everyone, just as I think myself better than everyone."
"How would I know?" she snapped back, not keeping her cool well. Ash had never had the best of tempers, and right now, hers was definitely getting to her. "I'm not exactly an expert on your mind, or anything!" Her pretty, lilting Irish accent was taking a louder, more infuriated tone by the second. But Ash couldn't help herself; she just couldn't seem to contain her anger at the moment.
"The eyes are better, but the face still needs work."
That really made her upset. Ashton Larks was unpredictable, and she was just about to test the limits of her constant mood swings. Those last words stung - even more so than Lafayette's usual slew of insults. Bitter tears sprung to her now-blue eyes, causing them to turn a turquoise shade. "What...what do you want from me?" she asked in a low, soft voice, trying to keep herself from crying.
What was WITH her today? Ashton couldn't contain ANY emotions, and all her wit seemed to be flying out the window with every second she spent with Lafayette LeCount. And she hated it. Ashton wanted her normal attitude back.

Lafayette saw the tears forming in Ashton's eyes, and his features softened slightly. His eyes had an unfamilar look in them. Could it be...pity? Did Lafayette LeCount, one of the most cold-hearted Slytherins since Draco Malfoy himself, be feeling bad for Ashton?
Lafayette closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them once again, they were as cold and unfeeling as ever. Now he sneered. When he spoke, his voice was barely above a venomous whisper.
"What do I want from you, Ashton? Well, I thought it'd be obvious. I guess even you Ravies aren't as smart as you boast about being. If you don't know, I'm certainly not going to tell you. You can just save your tears; crying won't change the fact that you're a snobby girl who thinks herself above everyone else."

Ashton's blue eyes hardened a bit as Lafeyette's glance didn't waver. When he closed his, she felt the want to smirk satisfiedly, but held back the desire and continued looking at him, waiting for his reply. But when she saw the look of pity, it startled her. Could they possibly...well...NOT hate each other? His response changed her mind, though she didn't forget the look of pity.
She took a deep, quivering breath, not looking away. Natalie called it the Ashton glare - it was something she was good at, staring at people until they told the truth. It always worked - at least, usually.
"I think I'm above myself, do I? Well what about yourself? Carrying on in that 'oh, I'm just too good for all these girls, so I'll break their hearts' sort of matter? Pathetic," she shot back mockingly, pacing a cicrle around him as her pretty eyes didn't leave his face. "As for my question, fine, don't answer it, for all I care. I know there's a reason you bother me so much. If you truly hated me that much, you'd just leave me alone." Ashton's voice had been lowered to a deadly-sounding whisper. Well, this day was far from normal.

His head followed her as she paced around him. This girl was fiery; he'd give her that.
If you truly hated me that much, you'd just leave me alone.
"You'd think that, wouldn't you?" he retorted. "That's just what you want, isn't it? I leave you alone, and you sleep easier at night. Sorry, Princess, but that's not going to happen. I'll always trun up when you least expect me, when you least except it. For now, however, I'll grant you your wish."
He took one of her hands and brought it to his lips. After a moment, he dropped it. "See you around, Ashton."
With those words, he disappeared into the shadows from which he had come.
