Full Name: Kira Ridley
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Year: Sixth
Bloodline: Muggle-born
Parentage: Gerald and Loretta Newell
Houses in order of Preference:
1. Gryffindor
2. Hufflepuff
3. Ravenclaw
4. Slytherin
Wand: 10 1/2 inches, cedar and phoenix feather
Pet: None
Personality: Kira is quite shy and is slow to warm up to people. She has a hard time trusting anyone because of past experiences. She usually talks rather quietly and is wary of sharing her opinion on a subject, though she almost always has one.
Overall, Kira is very cautious. She always tries to keep track of what is going on around her and is always on edge, waiting for danger to jump out at her. She's rather jumpy and anxious.
Kira tries hard to please people, but still wants to be unique. She wants friends, but wants them to be her friend because they like her, not because they feel sorry for her. Kira is very reluctant to accept help from people, and she will almost never ask for help, preferring to do things on her own. She is a good listener and very empathetic.
Appearance: Kira is about 5'6" and is quite thin. She has brown hair to a bit past her shoulders, which is usually secured in a ponytail. Her eyes are blue and she's fairly pale, despite having spent a fair amount of time in the sun. Her facial features are delicate and very feminine.
Kira typically dresses fairly plainly, opting for jeans over fancier skirts or dresses. Simple t-shirts, often covered by a sweatshirt, complete the outfit. On occasion, Kira will "dress-up" a bit, putting on a modest length skirt (knee-length or longer) with a nice top, but only with good reason. She doesn't wear make-up, as she finds it a hassle that's not worth dealing with (and she hasn’t figured out how to do so without being able to see).
Kira moves carefully, though not clumsily. She likes to know if someone else is in a room, what's going on, etc. before entering, and may appear hesitant.
History: Kira was born the middle child of Gerald and Loretta Ridley 16 years ago. She didn't always get along with her older sister, Melany, but was very close to her younger brother, Nic.
Kira was a bit of a bookworm, preferring to stay inside rather than play outside with the other children in the neighborhood, so she became a bit of an outcast. School was also very important to her and she always did very well. She basked in the praise of teachers and didn’t mind helping the other students that didn’t catch on to things as quickly. Her parents were proud of her accomplishments and encouraged her to continue her studies.
When Kira was 10, she began to wonder if she wasn’t a bit different from the other members of her family. Letters containing incomprehensible scribbling would appear on her windowsill overnight, and she would wake to curtains flapping in the breeze despite having locked the window before going to bed. Books unlike any she had ever seen soon followed, and she spent hours engrossed within their pages. In this way, she started her magic schooling, studying on her own. Afraid of what others might think, she kept the strange occurences secret, hiding in her room with her books.
Eventually, curiousity got the better of her and Kira showed the books and letters to her parents. Showing the items to her parents did nothing to explain their appearance. At first, her parents brushed it off as stress from starting high school and told her to stop making things up and act like an adult. They soon realized it was a lot more than stress. Convinced that Kira was suffering from some sort of mental disease, her parents arranged to have her sent to a hospital for treatment. Quite upset with the idea, Kira ran out the front door onto the busy street and was hit by a car. Brain damage from the accident left her without her sight, though her other injuries healed with time. Fed-up with her parents' insistence that she receive help for her "problem," she left home three months ago, attempting to make it on her own. During her travels, an owl somehow found her, dropping a letter into her hands before taking off. She followed the instruction contained within the letter, arriving at Hogwarts just days after learning of its existence.
Sample Post:
Angry voices. Growling. Arguing. Heavy footsteps drawing nearer.
Fear overtook the girl as she turned toward the sound, finding only a dark blur moving through the shadows. She tried to call out, only to find that she couldn't find her oice to do so. Just as she was starting to back away, the blur rushed her, knocking her forcefully to the ground. Her mouth opened in a silent scream as she felt something sharp tear into her right leg.
Only then did the shapeless entity begin to take shape. A wolf, black fur making it appear much larger than it probably was, crouched before her. Teeth bared, its crimson eyes glowed in the moonlight. The girl watched in horror as the creature stalked closer, a growl that sounded almost like a laugh emanating from it. Reaching the girl's head, the canine opened its jaws wide, reaching down to close sharp teeth around her neck.
Kira bolted upright in bed, gasping for breath. Her body shook as the images from her nightmare replayed in her mind. It seemed strange to Kira that, even though she was blind in life, in her dreams she could always see. She had yet to decide if the sight was a blessing or a curse, seeing as how most of her dreams nowadays weren't dreams at all, but nightmares. Taking a shaky breath, she reached up to wipe the tears from her eyes.
Only to find out that she didn't have a hand. She panicked then, pushing herself further up in bed. Something wasn't right. She opened her mouth to call out, panicking further when no sound came out.
Calm down Kira, she told herself. You're having another nightmare. Just calm down, and you'll wake up in your bed, safe and sound.
The voice of reason residing somewhere within her mind almost overtook the panic she was feeling, and the girl took a deep breath. The much-needed oxygen set off another round of panic within her as her mind cleared enough to think things through further.
I can't see! her mind screamed. If this is a nightmare, why can't I see?!
She turned to swing her legs over the side of the bed, intent on getting someone to help her, when she felt something shifting in the bed behind her. Frightened beyond what she thought possible, Kira moved closer to the edge of the bed, realizing belatedly that she was too close to the edge. The thought came too late and she toppled off the bed, landing on the floor with a thump.
A groan rose up in her throat, a whimper breaking the silence around her.
Was that a dog? she wondered, feeling something behind her once more as she moved. Wait a second.
Realization came ever so slowly as Kira pushed herself to her feet. The floor was solid under four feet.
Paws, she corrected herself mentally. You have paws. You're a lycan now, remember? I'm sure this type of thing happens all the time. Just get back into bed, and when you wake up, you'll be your normal, human self again.
Decision made, she turned back to her bed. Only when her nose was resting against the covers did Kira realize she had no idea how to get herself back atop the bed. With a sigh, she sat down, canting her head to the side as she considered what to do.
Guess I'll just have to figure out how to become human again, she thought with a sigh.
Squeezing her eyes shut tightly, Kira tried to think human thoughts. Maybe if she thought enough like a human, she would become one. After several minutes with no success, she gave up, turning away from the bed. Still shaking, she curled up alongside the bed, pulling her tail tightly around her.
I'll just wait 'til morning, she told herself tiredly. I'll find someone to help me then.
