Lafayette's smirk widened. "Hopefully the squid won't show up, and you'll never find out the answer to that question." He took off his shirt and approached the edge of the lake. "Looks fine, not a squid in sight." Chuckling, he sat on the edge of the lake and stuck his feet in the water.

Gemini raised an eyebrow at him and glared slightly. "Good to know, remind me to never need help when your around," she told him pushing her hair behind her head and walked to the edge. She put a foot in the water and pulled it back quickly. "Shit that's cold," she said a shiver running threw her after touching the cold water.

Lafayette shrugged. "Is it? I find it rather comfortable. But to each his own, I guess," he told her, sliding the rest of the way into the water. "Come on, Gem. Join me. If you're still cold in five minutes, I'll just have to warm you up," he added with a smirk.

"I don't know how you can stand this," she said slowly walking into the water the rest of the way. She stopped when she was submurdged up to her chest and stood there trying to adjust to the temperature. "Really, for some reason I see you handing me over to the squid,'' she told him wondering how he could stand such cold water. In the summer the temperature was way better. In this weather she was surprised she wasn't a frozen ice cube.

He shrugged again. "I guess I just have thicker skin than you do," he told her. The temperate of the water didn't really bother him, but he supposed it would be rather cool to someone who wasn't used to it. He figured a change of subject was in order. "How about a race to the other side of the lake?" he asked.

Gemini looked at him slightly wide eyed. "Do you know how wide this lake is?" she asked looking ahead of herself. It was quite far but she didn't risist a challange. "Alright fine.Go." she said quickly then dove into the water and started swimming to the other end. It was cheating but she was cold and though of heat made her go fast.

Lafayette shook his head. Malfoys, he thought to himself before diving after her. She'd taken him by surprise, and had actually gotten a pretty good head start. Lafayette wasn't worried, though. He always came back in the end. "Nicely played, Princess," he shouted ahead of him, hoping to catch her off guard.

Gemini continued to swim slightly ahead of him seeing as she got a head start. She did that alot, cheat to get ahead or get what she wanted. It ran in the family, a trait that she couldn't shake. Speaking of shake, she was trembling as she continued to swim. The further she got the colder the water became. Any heat her body had retained was no gone and she was swimming on a cold stir. Hearing a princess reference she stopped slightly and turned her head. "I told you not to call me that!" she yelled after him.

His plan worked. She stopped, and he took the opportunity to close the gap between them. He slowed slightly as he reached her, but didn't stop. "I know, but what are you gonna do about it?" he asked, putting on a bit of speed as he passed her.

Gemini treid to hit him when he passed by her and missed. She quickly started to swim again tying to catch up to him. Diving under water she tried to speed up despite the cold that hse felt going threw her.

Halfway across the lake, Lafayette felt himself tiring. He'd swam the length of the lake before, but never at this pace. He tried to keep up his pace, but it was impossible, and he began slowing down. He chanced a look behind him, and saw Gemini gaining on him. She dove under the water, and Lafayette paused, but only for a moment. After catching his breath, he took off at half speed once again.

Gemini thought that she really was going to pass out from the cold. She was slowing down after she had surfaced again. It was getting harder to swim to the end but she continued to think about the warmth of leaving the cold water. She continued to swim not really caring if she would win. Looking up for a moment she saw Lafayette slow down and wondered if something was wrong.

Lafayette looked behind him and noticed a considerable amount of space between himself and Gemini. Sighing, he stopped and turned to face her. "If you're not even going to try, then what's the point?" he yelled. "Come on, we're almost there." Sure enough, the other bank was a mere 50 yards away. He took off once again, this time at a pace that knew he'd be able to keep until he got to the other shore.

"Well sorry I am freezing!" she yelled back at him and sped up a bit. She got a burst of energy and soon caught up to him. Somewhere never the bank she passed him slightly and practically flew out of the water. Shivering she started jumping around as she huddled trying to get some heat into her body. The cold air hitting the cold water did not help her cause. Her lips were blue and she was trembling insecintly.

Lafayette climbed out of the water a few moments later. Now that he was out of the water, he realized how cold it was. He refused to be wrong, however, and forced himself not to shiver. He walked over to Gemini, who was shivering uncontrollably.
"Come here," he said simply. Without waiting for her to move, he pulled her to him and began radidly rubbung her arms. "That better?" he asked.
